2/9/09 Board Meeting - Duplicate Expenses and Suspect Reading Program

I asked about why the district was spending money to buy Leap Frog DVDs for incoming Kindergartners to teach letters and letter sounds when part of the Kindergarten curriculum is to teach letters and letter sounds and whether or not this was an unwarranted duplicate expense.

I also asked about the effectiveness of the current Guided Reading program in light of the fact that teachers were being required to go to Guided Reading training, as though teacher training was the problem and not the efficacy of the program itself.

I also stated that I thought 8th grade graduation should be phased out as it serves no purpose other than 'this is how we've always done it'.
