When Schools Fail They Change The Rules (Sunday, November 8, 2009)

In Case of the Missing Juniors, Rich East High School accounts for its "stunning" 37% increase in 11th grade test scores because 40% of last year's juniors did not take the PSAE state test.

Rich East High School excluded the lowest achieving junior students from taking the PSAE by increasing the junior credit level requirements. Though these students were third year high-school students, their lack of credit hours classified them as sophomores. How convenient.
"Officials with the Illinois State Board of Education have known for years that schools were reclassifying juniors. But the practice became so pervasive last year, state officials said they launched an investigation. They will not provide any details of what they uncovered, saying they will present their findings to the state testing review committee this month."
Once again, "educators" attempt to escape accountability by obfuscating instead of accurately representing student achievement.
